Dr Weam Tunsi

Dr Weam Tunsi is the Vice President for Quality and Development at the University of Business and Technology (UBT) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He has been with UBT since 2014. Dr Tunsi is responsible for quality assurance and accreditation at the institutional, college and program levels. He brings extensive experience with different national and International accreditation agencies and is an Academic Accreditation Reviewer for national, regional and international accreditation governing bodies.

During his term as Vice President for Quality and Development, UBT gained Full Institutional National Accreditation (until 2024). Additionally, Dr Tunsi, with his team, lead one of the largest national accreditation projects at the level of Saudi Private Higher Education Institutions (14 program accreditation projects), which were successfully accomplished by gaining 10 programs accreditation and 4 programs accreditation’s results are expected to be announced during the 1st Quarter of 2022. With his team, he leads the development of UBT’s strategic plan and ensures its execution. Prior to his current position, he held several position at UBT, such as Interim Vice President of Academic Affairs, Assistant-Vice President for Quality and Development and Vice-Dean of Academic Affairs.

During his service at UBT, Dr Tunsi served in various capacities (Chair/Vice Chair/Member) at many councils, standing and ad-hock committees that includes: Center of governance and sustainability Council, Digital Transformation Committee, Customized Books Committee, Governance and Organizational Restructure Committee, and many others. Additionally, Dr Tunsi acted as the secretariat of UBT Council since 2017. Dr Tunsi earned his Bachelor of system engineering in Industrial System Engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals. He holds a PhD in Human Resources Management and an MBA (HRM) from Griffith University, Australia. He teaches both at the undergraduate and graduate levels. His research interests are in the area of performance management and capacity building through practical knowledge sharing.

Dr Tunsi has multiple advisory roles, including being an Academic Advisory Committee Member for QS MAPLE Conference – 2020. Dr Tunsi major areas of interest relates to standards that focuses on the following: strategic planning and management, governance, quality assurance and students and community engagement.
